Floods Rammy

Resident in Bury and Ramsbottom are being evacuated after the River Irwell burst its banks during Storm Ciara.

Bury Council have set up an evacuation centre at Castle Leisure Centre in Bolton Street, Bury.

It is not yet known how many homes in the Radcliffe, Redvales and Ramsbottom area are affected following the biggest UK storm to hit the UK in 7 years.

I spoke to Tim Laver who lives at Peel Brow on the banks on the River Irwell in Ramsbottom who praised the response from the authorities.

In central Ramsbottom Kenyon Street is flooded and the fire service is pumping out houses.

Manchester Road, near Park Farm, is also flooded with stranded cars that tried to get through the standing water.

The A56 near Ramsbottom is currently flooded and parts of Nuttall Park is under water, including the play area.

Heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Ciarra are set to slowly ease from around 9pm, but forecasters are warning of heavy snow showers causing more disruption from around 3pm tomorrow.

A couple from Barrow who met before the Queen took to the throne will be celebrating their Platinum anniversary this weekend.

91 year old Eric Garrett and his wife, 90 year old Iris will be having a quiet meal out with their family.

Ahead of the BIG day I went along to meet them for BBC Radio Cumbria.

You can watch just how much these two still love each other in the video we made too.

Sleep Bear

All parents know that bedtime can be a tricky time and creating an adventure to get the little one to bed can be a massive help.

And after Dad Chris Dorning from Preston created the Sleep Bear he wanted other children to enjoy the adventure – So ‘Sleep Bear’ the book was born.

He’s been talking to Carl Hartley on BBC Radio Lancashire.
